This weekend, for the first time in almost a year, we left the bear with grandma and grandad for a whole weekend and headed to my husband’s home town for a wedding.
Come morning nap time on Saturday we hit the road, and having accepted the fact that the car was in semi order and not packed to the rafters for a reason, we were on our way.
And we had a really lovely time. We blubbed (well I did), we ate, we drank (quite a lot), and we danced. I heard every second of the speeches, I wrote in the guest book, we chatted with friends, and we were in bed well, well after 9.30pm.
And I have to say too, a hangover is actually quite an enjoyable experience, without someone small and demanding needing feeding and changing. Especially when there are sausage and bacon baps involved.
We got back in time for bath, stories and bed having realised that we have the most beautiful baby in the world, who actually gives us quite an easy time – but also that it’s important to have adult time for us too.
As we drove home in monsoon weather, we hit the M40 and the skies cleared (how romantic…). The biggest rainbow appeared and I think we both silently smiled inside. It was good to be heading home.
